About this service
Traps are the curved sections that hold water as a seal against drain odour. P-traps under basins, bottle traps for cleanability, S-traps in older WC installations and deep-seal floor traps in bathrooms. We size the trap to the outlet, verify the seal water depth (50 mm minimum for a working trap), and confirm the run downstream slopes away properly. The wrong trap or a flat downstream run causes the seal to siphon out and the bathroom to smell.
Common symptoms we see
- Drain odour even after cleaning
- Trap visible under the basin is leaking
- Slow drain that gurgles
- Building or replacing a trap during renovation
How we do it
- 1Identify the right trap type for the fixture
- 2Disconnect and remove old trap
- 3Fit and seal new trap; check the seal-water depth
- 4Run water for several minutes; verify dry joints
Materials we use
PVC P-traps and bottle traps (40/50 mm), deep-seal floor traps, EPDM seals for compression joints.
Typical duration
30–60 minutes per trap.
Safety & quality
Cleanable bottle traps are recommended in kitchens — they save call-outs for clogs.
Frequently asked questions
My trap dries out when I’m on holiday — fix?
Use a dry-trap insert (HepvO type) — it holds the seal mechanically without needing water.
Bottle trap or P-trap under the basin?
Bottle traps look cleaner and are easier to open for cleaning. P-traps are more compact. Either works.
Why does my drain gurgle after I empty the sink?
Vent issue, not the trap. The drain is sucking air through the trap because there is no proper vent above.
